What is MASC 2019?

The Midwest Actuarial Student Conference (MASC) was created in 2013 to give students pursuing a career in the actuarial field a chance to learn about the different perspectives and disciplines within the occupation while offering companies the opportunity to network with students. MASC 2019 will be held September 13-14th at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center located at 8 Traders Circle Normal, IL, 61761. The committee planning the MASC consists of Actuarial Students at Illinois State University:

Here is a tentative itinerary for our conference:

Friday Night - September 13^th - Dress is Business Casual

• 5:00 pm - Brief sign-in at the Radisson Conference Center
• 5:30 pm - Campus tours of Pinnacle Actuarial Resources, Inc. and State Farm

Saturday - September 14^th - Dress is Business Casual

• 8:00 am - Breakfast

  • Different Actuarial Roles - a panel featuring three actuaries working in different roles. Presentation includes a Q & A session
  • Networking Session 1
• 10:00 am
  • Internship and New Hire tips - best tips to make the best first impression you can with an employer
  • Networking Session 2
• 11:00 am
  • How to Study - features best studying tips from some industry experts
  • Networking Session 3
• Noon - Lunch break featuring a presentation from CAS and SOA representatives with Q & A to follow
• 1:30 pm
  • P&C Modeling - a modeling expert from Pinnacle Actuarial Resources will share some insights into the field of modeling and what innovations are coming
  • Developing Trends in the Life Industry - an actuary working at RGA will discuss some future trends in the life industry
• 2:30 pm
  • Developing Trends in the P&C Industry - a presentation from a P&C actuary about the future of the property and casualty field and what students can expect to encounter upon graduation
  • Alumni Q & A Panel - recent graduates of Illinois State with a variety of backgrounds will field student questions
