Program Milestones
Transfer credits
24 credits of the MAS must be earned here at CSU to be awarded a CSU degree. That means up to 6 credits from an outside institution can be transferred. For credits to transfer they must meet the following criteria:
Cannot already be used towards another degree (e.g. your Bachelor's degree, or another master's degree)
Must be taken at the graduate level
A "B" or better (3.0) must be earned
Approved by Statistics Department Faculty
If you have coursework that meets the above requirements, you can see if it would be approved to transfer by contacting the director of the program, Kirsten Eilertson.
Specializations
When you submitted your application you selected a specific program track or specialization: Data Science or Statistical Science. These share many core courses, but there are some differences. Learn more here. If you wish to switch tracks, you will just fill out a GS7 form, this is indicated as a "detour" in the graphic above. Depending on how far you have progressed through the program, switching tracks could set back your progress toward graduation.
Program Of Study
The approved courses on your Program of Study are a central component of your path to degree completion. As you pursue your coursework, it is important to remember:
Courses cannot be removed or changed (removed and swapped for a replacement) until you apply to graduate - amendments are then made on the GS25 Application for Graduation.
Courses cannot be removed from your Program of Study once the course is taken. The grades earned are permanently included in your GPA.
You may access your Program of Study via RAMWeb→Graduate Students→Graduate Degree Plan. This resource includes your:
four GPAs (maintaining a 3.0 or better in all four GPAs is required)
committee members
requirements for degree conferral
Capstone Consulting Course
The M.A.S program culminates with the Capstone Consulting Module, STAA556. The course runs for approximately six weeks, from mid-May until the end of June. This is a team based learning experience in which student teams are assigned a genuine client-based project. The teams perform a principled and thorough statistical analysis of client data in response to some well-defined questions posed by the client. The results of the analysis are documented into a formal technical report which constitutes the main assignment of the course.
Commencement Ceremony
The M.A.S. program concludes in the summer term. However, the Graduate School does not offer a commencement ceremony during the summer term. M.A.S. graduates can choose to walk in the spring commencement ceremony prior to the completion of the program or the fall commencement ceremony following completion of the program. To be eligible to graduate, a student must have successfully completed all of the requirements for the M.A.S. program and submit an Application for Graduation (GS25) form. A student applying to graduate can start the process using the “Apply or Reapply to Graduate” link in RAMweb.
The Graduate Commencement Ceremony is held at 11:30 am in Moby Arena on the Friday of Finals Week each spring and fall semester. Visit the Graduate School’s Commencement page for more details.
Look for an email from our program coordinator inviting you to participate in an MAS specific reception, usually held on campus just prior to the graduate school ceremony.
