Dip into the country and culture of Morocco, and take part in a reflection on the times. Authentic Moroccan hot mint tea will be served at the program along with Middle Eastern snacks.
Mary and Kevin deliver a captivating memoir told with style, depth and humor. The legendary cities of Tangiers, Rabat, and Casablanca are their backyard. Their front yard is a patchof grass in front of the Quonset Hut apartment provided as Navy housing. They make friendswith everyone from a shoeshine boy in Tangiers to the prostitute next door and the Bishop of Gibraltar.
Kevin’s service in the U.S. Navy brings them to Morocco, where an undercover communications base is the last U.S. military installation on Arab soil. The backdrop of theVietnam War is a constant presence. Told from the perspective of the enlisted ranks, the bookprovides insights on their everyday life and global issues.
BIOS: Mary Armao McCarthy's essays and poetry have been sprinkled over publications for many years. She is an award-winning writer and a past president of the Hudson Valley Writers Guild. She finished her memoir Our Time in Morocco after retiring from a career in education and public policy. Kevin McCarthy, her husband and co-author, spent nine years in the US Navy. He was a local teacher and high school principal.
