Arts Integration has been an integral component of my experience as an educator. In my early teaching career I had the opportunity to be part of a Fine and Performing Arts/World Languages theme-based school. Collaborations (TACs) are co-taught lessons with math, science, language arts and social studies teachers. These partnerships with colleagues comprised half of my teaching assignment, in addition to general music classes. The links below are examples of some of the lessons created through Arts Integration.
6th grade students in Music/Chinese collaboration lesson.
6th grade class learning Orff instrumentation for Chinese folk song
"Lunar Rap" with music teacher colleague for Grade 5 Music/Science collaboration lesson. Students learned the refrain of the rap, and the verses taught the Moon phases.
"Map Rap" presentation for Grade 6 Music/Social Studies TAC lesson. Students used the verses as a 'scavenger hunt' to find specific elements of a map.
