During my pre-tenure phase, I've been an active participant in IVCC's College Nights in October of each year and the Career Expos each spring. The College Nights allowed me to connect with prospective students and share with them what the Math Learning Center and IVCC is about as well as talking with them about MyMathTest as a placement test tool, and, most recently in 2013, our new Fast Track to College Math. I've had the pleasure to team up with my former colleague, Cheryl Hobneck, and adjunct Marilyn Lange to present the "Mathematics of Interior Design" to 8th and 9th graders during IVCC's Career Expo.
In addition to my involvement in these events, I've been a part of a variety of church and community organizations, committees and events.
In 2012, my first year in my new position at IVCC, I was also taking on new roles elsewhere offering my assistance where I could. I was in the middle of serving a one-year term as co-chair for Activities for the Oglesby Public Schools Parent-Teacher Organization, SOS (Support Oglesby Schools). In that year, we planned a family bingo night, a movie night, and an end-of-the-year carnival, but our biggest event was the group's first-ever Trivia Night fundraiser, held in February of 2012. I served as a question creator and judge for the event in addition to helping organize raffle baskets and assisting in set-up and tear-down. My multi-tasking skills were really put to the test that winter for I was also involved behind the scenes in Oglesby Washington School's presentation of Beauty & the Beast where I helped with sound, costumes, and set building.
In the fall of 2012, I stepped down from the SOS Activities committee and assumed Co-Presidency of the LP High School Athletic Booster Club and held this position for two school years, stepping down at the end of the 2014 school year. (I did remain an active member of SOS and again served on the Q & A team for Trivia Night and also as a judge for the event which was themed "80's Night".) As Co-President of the LPHS Booster Club, I maintained the group's Facebook page, sent group communications, helped run our monthly meetings, and oversaw volunteers at athletic events. I was also chair of the Wish-List committee and sat on the Scholarship committee. Currently, I am part of the team that coordinates all of the LPHS Spirit Wear. The team takes the lead on ordering, designing, and selling all apparel and ensures there is adequate inventory throughout the year.
During the fall of 2013 as I was entering the second year of my Booster Club presidency, I took on a couple of more responsibilites--I volunteered as an Assistant Coach to the LPHS Yearbook staff, and I also became an active member of the LP Band Parents Association. In March of 2014, I was proud to see our Yearbook staff participate in the IHSA Journalism sectional where 8 of our staff members qualified for state competition and two (one of them my daughter!) medaled at state competition. During that same semester, I was co-chair of ticket sales for the LPHS Spring Musical, "Bye, Bye Birdie". Also in the spring of 2014, I was elected Secretary of the organization where I'm responsible for recording and distributing minutes for our Executive and General Board meetings.
Church plays an important role in our family life and I'm glad to be involved as much as I can there as well. Over the last three years, I've been a member of our Missions Team, the choir, the nursery staff and a women's ministry team. I've most recently shaken that up a bit and have limited myself to the Missions Team and the Audio/Visual Team Co-lead.
Our family is also an active supporter of community theater. We are season-ticket holders at Stage 212 and I am also an usher there when time allows.
