FAQS
What do I wear/bring?
Wear a DARK COLORED t-shirt with your last name, first name clearly written on it in sharpie or written on a piece of tape big enough for coaches to read. Dress appropriately based on the weather. Good running shoes are all you need to start. Also bring a water bottle (we will have cooler but not cups).
How do I know if I can try out?
Athlete must be registered on FamilyID for spring track and field (and have a valid and complete NCHSAA sports physical on file) CLICK HERE FOR ELIGIBILITY LINKS You can and should check this yourself as a family. It is on you to make sure you are APPROVED when you show up. If you aren't eligible you will be sent home.
What will we do?
We will do speed and power testing for prospective sprinters, jumpers, throwers and hurdlers. (Ex. sprinting short distance, throwing things, jumping) We will test endurance ability for potential distance runners. These numbers will be posted so athletes can see where they stand. If you are embarrassed by your athletic testing numbers than track is not the sport for you as the results from every meet are posted online within hours.
How do I know about any changes? Ex. weather related cancellations or delays?
We use the BAND APP for all communications in the athletics department. Track will no longer use remind. If you/your child doesn’t make the team you/they can remove yourself from the app. You will also receive a lot of information that does not directly pertain to you as an athlete or parent. But, with over 150 athletes and 300 parents on the app we would rather overshare than forget someone. Please use your FIRST AND LAST name, athletes and parents. There are a lot of Mikes, Matts and Marys, etc. in the world. A link to join BAND is here ---> https://band.us/n/a6a60cldX2f86
I have a date for Valentine's Day that I can't miss, can I come the next day?
Good luck in romance, your relationship with track is not going to work out.
If I don't make the __________________________ team can I come try out for track?
We are one of the premier track programs in the state of North Carolina and compete at the highest 4A level with over 100 other programs in a sport that has been contested in North Carolina for over 100 years. This is serious training (that will be fun most of the time!). This is not a school club team/just something to put on a college application or a part time hobby for the unserious to dabble in. (There are other programs and clubs if that is your path, good luck! But, if our name is attached to your results you had better be ready to take this seriously and (i.e. practice and compete 5-6 times per week throughout the season. Ability alone is not enough, to win 4A state championships in a statewide sport, we need the good (and hopefully great) athletes who are ready to consistently follow training.
My team is still in the playoffs...
If you are playing for an NCHSAA recognized Marvin Ridge sport. then go win the state title and don't worry a thing about track until your post-season is over! (Same goes for us when we are in season though!) We will workout a time for you to tryout.
