Salient Region Extraction Based on Local Extrema of Natural Images

How does human can recognize image information? Human visual processing is very interesting because it can handle various kinds of visual information using very cost effective computation resource (brain).

This research was directed to explore the function of human visual processing called visual attention selection. Especially, it focused on the stability of the local extrema in image information to examine how the attention selection work by comparing eye gaze records of human subjects.
