Marty's first book of short stories, Grandmother's Devil & Other Tempting Tales, was a finalist in the 2021 Next Generation Indie Book Awards, the 2022 North Street Book Prize competitions, and was "Highly Recommended" in the 2022 Readers Favorite International Book Award contest. The 2021 Writers Digest Self Published Book Competition called him a "strong short story writer [who] composes with literary flair and a knack for description." 

His shorter fiction has been published in a variety of anthologies.

He is a founder of the Benicia CA Writers Workshop, serves on the Board of Directors of Napa Valley Writers, is a member of the Redwood Writers Chapter of the California Writers Club and Benicia Literary Arts.

He lives with his wife, Jan, a graphic artist and book designer who publishes under the Canyon Rose Press imprint.
