OH|ID Web portal access

Educators who do not have an OH|ID account must create one in order to renew credentials in CORE and access other ODE services such as the Learning Management System and the STARS Professional Development and Technical Assistance System (for registering for state-sponsored professional development opportunities). Educators who previously renewed their licenses by using a SAFE account must create an OH|ID account. The Ohio Department of Education transitioned from the SAFE portal to the OH|ID portal in Spring 2019.

The OH|ID login link is located above the search box on the ODE Home Page as shown below. Creating an account is simple. Just follow the step-by-step instructions or view this instructional video created by ODE. Registrants are required to submit identification in the form of a driver's license. Alternative forms of identification are acceptable.

ODE CORE Online Licensure System

Once educators have logged into their SAFE accounts, they can access the CORE Online Licensure System. This handy CORE Applicant User Manual contains detailed directions for using the online system. The following abbreviated directions from the Ohio Department of Education are helpful for getting started:

      • Sign into your OH|ID account.
      • Click on ODE.CORE.
      • If you do not land on the CORE dashboard, choose MY CORE DASHBOARD under Educator Licensure.
      • You may need to update your demographic information on the MY PROFILE page. Look in the upper right hand corner for the link.
      • Go to the My Credentials section located on the left side of the screen.
      • Choose the credential that you wish to renew. If you wish to work with more than one credential, choose them one at a time.
      • Click on the Action arrow to reveal a drop-down menu and select the intended action (Renew).
      • Complete the three steps of the application. You can save your application and return to it from the My Applications Status section if you want to complete and pay for it on another day.
      • Click on Apply.

If you wish to apply for more than one credential, repeat the steps above for each credential.

After you submit your application, it will be reviewed. You will receive an email acknowledgment of your submission. While you are waiting for your application to be processed, you may login and click on the STATUS button on the CORE dashboard for information about your application. You also will receive an email when your application request is approved or denied.

PLEASE NOTE:

During the application process, you will see a screen that prompts you to upload documents. If you are renewing a license through the LPDC, you probably DO NOT have to upload anything. However, not every educator can renew through the LPDC (a non-employed educator does not use the LPDC), so the option is part of the application. Because you are renewing through the LPDC, you are to submit your proof of professional development to the Google Classroom.

Alignment Option

Educators who have licenses that expire in different years may have the option to align the licenses so that they will expire in the same effective year. This option may save educators time and money.

This description and graphic from the Ohio Department of Education website clarifies this process:

Ohio educators who have multiple five-year professional licenses expiring at different times may align their licenses to take on the same effective year. As a certificate expires and is ready to be renewed, it may be aligned to a currently issued five-year professional license.

Please Note: Professional licenses can only be aligned at the time of expiration.

The Ohio Department of Education emphasizes that the license requirements are the same for both renewal and alignment.

To align a license, the Ohio Department of Education provides the following directions:

          • Access your OH|ID account.
          • Click on ODE CORE.
          • Select My Credentials.
          • Select your expiring five-year professional license you wish to align.
          • At the drop-down menu marked Select Action, select Align, and Apply.

Fees

On the "Submitted Applications" screen, the educator should select name of the application desired to begin the payment process. Then click the pay button. The amount due should be visible on the screen, and the educator will be prompted to enter credit card information for payment.

Educators must pay the required license fees electronically within their SAFE accounts. The cost for renewing a 5-year professional license is $200. Each additional license that is renewed or aligned renewed is $20. The complete fee schedule is available on the Ohio Department of Education website.

Consistently High Performing Teacher Status

The Ohio Revised Code 3319.22 added the Consistently High Performing Teacher designation. Educators who hold professional, lead professional, or senior professional teaching licenses may be exempt from the coursework requirement for the renewal of a license in the next renewal cycle.

The Ohio Department of Education website lists the eligibility criteria:

During the current licensure cycle, a consistently high-performing teacher has:

        1. Received the highest final summative rating on evaluations, as defined by Revised Code sections 3319.111 and 3319.112 where applicable, for at least four of the past five years; and
        2. Met at least one of the following additional criteria for at least three of the past five years:
          • Held a valid senior or lead professional educator license;
          • Held a locally recognized teacher leadership role that enhances educational practices by providing professional learning experiences at a district, regional, state or higher education level;
          • Served in a leadership role for a national or state professional academic education organization;
          • Served on a state-level committee supporting education; or
          • Received state or national educational recognition or award.

Teachers who meet the above criteria can complete the verification form and submit the form to the LPDC through the Google Classroom. The form should be uploaded into the Professional Development assignment with the Professional Development Record.

Teachers are responsible for submitting the verification form to the LPDC. If a verification form is not received by the LPDC with the professional development documentation, the teacher will be marked as NOT a Consistently High-Performing Teacher in CORE and will be responsible for completing the professional development requirements for renewal.
