About me

I am an Associate Professor of Economics at Rutgers University, New Brunswick. Before moving to New Jersey, I was the William and Jeanette Smith Associate Professor of Economics at Oberlin College. I primarily work in the fields of economic history, health economics, and labor economics.

My research interests include the economics of infectious disease, infant health, and the WW2 internment of Japanese Americans. Many of my current projects use natural language processing techniques to measure sentiment in historical newspapers.

My work has been published in outlets such as the Journal of Political Economy, the Journal of Economic Literature, the Journal of Health Economics, and the Journal of Economic History. I also served on the Editorial Board of Explorations in Economic History.
