I am an economist who studies technological innovation and business cycles. My recent research focuses on the macroeconomics of artificial intelligence, spanning institutions and property rights, firm dynamics and productivity, and worker adjustment. I earned my PhD from the University of Chicago in 2016 and joined MIT in 2017 after spending one year at Princeton University. I joined UC Berkeley in 2025. I received a National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 2023, the foundation's most prestigious award for early-career faculty.
