Marshfield R-I Virtual Instruction

Marshfield Virtual Program (MVP)

The Marshfield R-I School District offers a variety of 1st-12th grade courses  in a virtual format. These courses are offered and facilitated by Marshfield teachers and instructors and can be an excellent option to meet the diverse needs of our students and families. All courses are aligned with the seated curriculum. MVP provides curriculum and instruction in a virtual format, but is not a MOCAP program.

Marshfield R-I open enrollment in virtual courses closes on the 5th academic day of the spring and fall semesters. Open enrollment for summer virtual courses closes 5 academic days prior to the start of the summer session. In order to be considered for MVP enrollment, a student must first complete district open enrollment AND complete the MVP enrollment request form. Once district enrollment is complete, a student/parent should contact the Coordinator of Virtual Learning or the student's counselor to receive the MVP request form.

Students taking courses virtually are subject to district policies, procedures, and rules applicable to students enrolled in traditional courses including, but not limited to, the district's discipline code and prohibitions on academic dishonesty, discrimination, harassment, bullying, and cyberbullying.

When determining if enrollment in a virtual course is the best educational decision for a student, the student and parent might consider the following information:

*Student has demonstrated time-management skills that indicate the student is capable of submitting assignments and completing course requirements without reminders.

*Student has demonstrated persistence in overcoming obstacles and willingness to seek assistance when needed.

*Student has demonstrated verbal or written communication skills that would allow the student to succeed in an environment where the instructor may not provide nonverbal cues to support the student's understanding.

*Student has the necessary computer or technical skills to succeed in a virtual course.

*Student has access to technology resources to participate in a virtual course.

*Student previously has been successful with virtual coursework.

Marshfield R-I Schools offer several online MOCAP courses through the Launch partnership with Springfield Public Schools which has a large variety of rigorous online courses available for Kindergarten-12th grades. Launch is the preferred MOCAP provider for Marshfield R-I. Kindergarten-5th grade students will utilize the Marshfield partnership with Launch for all their courses. Launch courses are available to HS students in the event Marshfield does not offer the needed online course.

Missouri Course Access and Virtual School Program (MOCAP) was established in 2007 as the state’s online school. It was previously known as Missouri Virtual Instruction Program (MOVIP). Currently, MOCAP offers courses for Kindergarten through 12th grade. Students can take courses from any Internet-connected computer, available 24-hours a day, seven days a week. MOCAP's mission is to offer Missouri students equal access to a wide range of high quality courses, and interactive online learning that is neither time nor place dependent.

In the summer of 2022, HB 1552 was passed, thereby defining a virtual student’s learning opportunities with MOCAP vendors. Highlights of this legislation are below:

When a student enrolls in a MOCAP program, the host and resident districts may choose to collaborate on an Educational Services Plan for the student.
