Counseling Updates and Information

Winter and Spring 2019

As we head into the second half of our school year, please check out our updates below. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Classroom Lessons

3rd Grade: Students are working hard as collaborators and communicators to create posters for our Perseverance Gallery Walk. Each group read a story about a famous person who experienced difficult times but persevered. Ask your child who they are learning about and what they can do whey they are faced with a challenge or something new. In March and April students will learn test taking tips to help prepare them for the SOL tests.

4th grade: We completed our mandatory harassment lessons in which students learned how to respond to bullying or harassment with empathy and courage. Now we are learning more about problem solving and decision making using the critical and creative thinking strategy Plus, Minus, Interesting. Ask your children to help you make a decision with this strategy! In March and April students will put their problem solving and decision making skills to good use while they practice conflict resolution and collaboration skills. Ask them how their team worked together to save "Fred"!

Students with 5th and 6th grade are also learning ways to be assertive, empathetic, and understanding with our mandatory harassment lessons.

Small Groups

3rd and 4th grade Academic Success Skills groups will finish at the end of January! For a summary of what we learned and how you can support your child's efforts to be strong students, please check out our summary newsletter:
