Marshall High School offers a comprehensive band program that includes a competitive Marching Band, two Jazz Bands, three Concert Bands, and an Athletic Band.
The Tiger Marching Band competes regionally at eight competitions, including being the host ensemble for the Pursuit of Excellence competition held annually in Marshall on the third Saturday in September.
The concert bands participate in four concerts throughout the academic year, including our Holiday Extravaganza concert with our outstanding Choirs.
Our jazz bands perform often, including our annual All-City Jazz and our Pop, Popcorn, and Jazz concerts.
The athletic band strives to be outstanding musical teammates to our tremendous athletic teams, playing for more than 20 events annually, including state tournaments.
Select band students also participate in our Regional Solo/Ensemble Contest, and the annual Southwest Minnesota Band Directors Honor Bands.
There are three choirs at Marshall High School: an auditioned 11th-12th grade Concert Choir, Choir 2, which is mostly 10th grade, and Choir 1, which is mostly 9th grade.
The choirs present three formal concerts throughout the year including the Holiday Extravaganza concert with a combined choir and band finale and a choreographed Pops Concert in May.
Concert Choir participates in the yearly Big South Choral Festival and performs at the MHS Commencement ceremony.
Roaring 20's Pop Choir is a small auditioned ensemble that rehearses outside of the school day and performs for Pop, Popcorn, and Jazz, All-City Jazz, private events, and the Pops Concert.
There are also many extra opportunities for choir students to grow in their singing skills including the Fall Musical, the Young Men's Barbershop Harmony Festival, Regional 2A Solo and Ensemble Contest, and individual lessons.
Marshall Public School is privileged to have a thriving orchestra program that provides instruction from 4th-12th grade.
The 9th-12th high school orchestra is home to approximately 60 string players and presents four concerts a year.
Yearly performance highlights for the orchestra include the December "Strolling Strings" concert that is held on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University, and the Grand Finale concert in May that includes all 4-12 orchestra students playing on stage at the same time.
The high school orchestra also participates yearly in the Region 2A Large Group Contest held in Mankato.
