Course Description
College reading, writing, and critical thinking with a major research component. Reading, writing, and research assignments are based predominantly on non-fiction texts.
For more specifics, please see the CCSF English 1A Course Outline.
Please note that my course has a driving question: Is American society becoming more narcissistic? If so, how can it impact us? We will explore this question for most of the semester.

Student Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:
Analyze university-level texts
Compose research-based, organized essays that are driven by an arguable thesis and that employ critical thinking
Apply the major conventions of standard written English
Choose and integrate credible sources for support, using appropriate citation format
Class Meetings
This course will not have any online meetings. However, I am always happy to meet with students during my office hours.
Attendance and Drop Policy
Attendance
Students who do not log in to an online class by the third day and participate in a learning activity will be dropped from the class. It is strongly advised that if you need to miss more than one class/homework deadline in a row that you contact me to avoid being dropped from the class.
Dropping the Class
If you decide to discontinue this course, it is your responsibility to be aware of important drop deadlines and drop the course: No refund (after 10% of course length), a W symbol (after 20% course length), or a grade (after 60% course length). Also, for several consecutive, unexplained lack of Canvas participation (not submitting assignments, participating in the discussion boards, etc.), I will reach out to inquire if you plan on continuing the course. If I do not hear back within a reasonable time frame, I will initiate dropping you from the course.
If students are not submitting assignment for a few days stretch of time, I will generally formally contact via Canvas Inbox and will withdraw students who have not been active or responded to my email.
