Travel Information

The International Summer School will be held in Herrsching, a small town about 40 km southwest of Munich.

How to get there

To plan your trip, you can use the MVG website or tools such as Google maps. 

These are the main ways to get to the location:

1. The S-Bahn train S8 from the airport (1,5h) or from Munich main station (52 min) will take you to Herrsching (network plan). It has the yellow-on-black sign and is the yellow S bahn line. Enter the train in the direction of "Herrsching".

2. From station Herrsching, bus no. 921 will bring you from Herrsching Station to Herrsching Lochschwab (departure times).

3. From stop "Lochschwab" it is a 2-minute walk to the location.

For the ticket, the easiest option for you is to buy the "Day Ticket Single M-5" for 15,50 €. Use any DB or MVV ticket machine at the airport or main station to buy it. Alternatively, you can enter your destination at the ticket machine to get a single ticket.

Arrival & Departure

• Arrival day is Tuesday, August 6, 2024. Check-in time for the School is starting at 13:00 (1 pm) (earlier arrival is not possible.)

  • After arriving please register right away at the Summer School Office on Tuesday, July 06, 2024 and pick up your room key there.

  • ⚠️ Please inform us if you will arrive later than 19:00 (7 pm).

• Saturday, August 17, 2018, is the official day of departure, check-out time is 9 a.m. at the latest. Please organize your trip home accordingly.

Summer School Office at Herrsching

You will find the Summer School Office at the entrance of the school building. On Tuesday August 06. until Firday August 07, the office will be occupied onsite.

Accomodation information

All participants will be lodged in the boarding house of the school. There are single and double rooms (limited capacity). Our all-inclusive arrangement is made for 11 nights, i.e. from August 06, until August 17, 2024.

Our Summer School courses start on Wednesday morning, August 7, 2024 at 8:45 and end on Friday, August 16, 2024 late in the evening with a farewell dinner.

Should you arrive earlier or wish to stay longer in Herrsching/Bavaria/Germany, you are kindly requested to make your own arrangement for that period.

It is not foreseen that participants are accompanied by non-participants (family, colleagues…). However, in the exceptional case that you plan to bring someone with you, you are kindly requested to make your own arrangement for that period.

Meals

All meals are served in the boarding house. Breakfast is served from 7:30a.m. to 9:00a.m., lunch at 12:30p.m. and dinner usually at 6:30p.m. Refreshments are offered during the breaks. If you wish vegetarian meals or any kind of special meals (e.g. allergic reasons) please let us know immediately, we try to make a special arrangement with the boarding house.

On Tuesday August 06, Sunday August 11, and Saturday August 17, 2024 (day of departure), no lunch will be served.

Social events

We are having some special events like e.g. a Bavarian evening, hiking, our farewell dinner, and a concert especially organized for the Summer School.

Packing tips & dress code

• Herrsching is situated on the Ammersee and near the Alps; ⚠️ weatherproof clothing is advisable such as solid shoes, windcheater and rain protection.

• For the hiking events we kindly ask you to bring weatherproof clothing.

• For the Farewell Dinner we wish for you to dress smart casual/sporty in your own style.

• Bike rental (limited quantity)

As the Ammersee is a holiday region, there are various sports facilities in the surrounding area (mountains, climbing garden, surfing, cycling, swimming etc.). The reception will help you with any further information.

Travel Grant

For those of you who receive a travel grant: The grant can only be paid on presentation of all original receipts (paper bills/print outs) concerning the trip. Only the actual costs up to the amount of your travel grant will be reimbursed. You can get it cash or by bank transfer. The payment depends on the completeness of your documents resp. the date of submission.
