“Instructions for living a life: Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell me about it.”

- Mary Oliver

Hi! I'm Mark. I'm a geologist - specifically a glacial geochemist - and an Earth sciences educator. I earned my Ph.D. in geology from the University of Michigan, where I now serve as a lecturer in the Earth and Environmental Sciences Department.

I began teaching while in graduate school and quickly learned I both enjoy it immensely and have a talent for helping students learn. I've improved my teaching skills through the years via student feedback, teaching seminars, and - most notably - a year-long fellowship in Idaho at the McCall Outdoor Science School. My goal is to help students learn about the Earth, and Earth surface processes, through engaging classes.
