The EMPLATES program has been designed for fast and approximate forward modeling and interpretation of geophysical electromagnetic (EM) dipole-dipole measurements in frequency domain. The model consists of up to five thin conductors that are more or less arbitrarily oriented, rectangular, and embedded in the lower part of conductive two-layer host medium. A maximum of five profiles and ten frequencies can be handled simultaneously. Measured field data is read in for interpretation from column formatted text files. Parameter optimization can be used to find the best fit between the computed response and the measured data. The computation is made possible for the basic vertical (VMD-VMD) and horizontal (HMD-HMD) magnetic dipole systems operated either in an in-line or in a broadside fashion. Airborne systems and perpendicular loop systems (VMD-HMD and HMD-VMD) can also be modeled. Systems that utilize a VMD source, measure the ratio of vertical and horizontal magnetic field, and use either a fixed loop spacing or a fixed loop position can be modeled as well.
The private version of the EMPLATES program can be used free of charge for private, non-commercial and scientific purposes. However, its properties have been limited so that only one plate, one profile and three frequencies can be used. A default system sound is made when a restricted task is attempted
