It's a bit nerve-wracking asking people to provide feedback on your coaching.......but I've done it. This is 100% verbatim and from real athletes that I have coached and not from Chat GPT
Review of Coach Mark (MC coaching) – A True Game-Changer
Working with Mark has been nothing short of transformational. As a retired Olympian, I came into this journey with a body that didn’t quite match the ambition still alive in my head. I had taken on the challenge of a half Ironman, and at times, it felt like I’d bitten off far more than I could chew. But from day one, Mark guided me with the perfect blend of patience, precision, and passion.
He took me from being out of shape to crossing the finish line of a 5-hour half Ironman – something I never imagined possible in my post-competition years. When my ego tried to train like I was still 20, Mark knew exactly when to hold me back. That restraint, combined with his consistent and intelligent programming, allowed my body to adapt and train hard, week after week, without breaking down.
What truly set Mark apart was his attention to detail. Every session had a purpose, and nothing was left to chance. He listened to my feedback, adjusted plans on the fly when any niggles cropped up, and ensured every session served the long-term goal. His ability to adapt the training based on how I was feeling – both physically and mentally – made all the difference.
By race day, not only was I physically prepared, but I also felt ready. Confident, strong, and genuinely excited to race. Perhaps even more importantly, Mark helped me fall back in love with sport and exercise. The joy, the discipline, the challenge – it all came flooding back under his guidance.
I can’t recommend Mark highly enough. Whether you're a complete beginner, an amateur athlete, or a seasoned professional looking to take things to the next level in triathlon or running, Mark has the knowledge, empathy, and coaching skill to help you get there – and enjoy the ride along the way.
Mark.......Thanks James it was a pleasure to work with you. Encouraging people to love their sport is something that really motivates me to coach
In 2023, I asked Mark to coach me for a half marathon, as I had only used generic training plans in the past and felt that I would gain much more benefit from a personalised plan and coaching. After a chat, Mark took account of my ability, time available to train and type of event I wanted to do and drew up a plan which met my needs and still pushed me. The plan was reviewed regularly to ensure that I was managing and amended, if necessary, to take account of my progress. I successfully completed my half marathon with a course PB and also gained a sound understanding of the importance of pacing along the way. I have just started training with him again for a longer event and am, again, benefiting from a doable but still challenging training plan.
I have no hesitation in recommending Mark's coaching. It really doesn't matter if you are a weaker runner (like me!) or strong, the coaching will be personal to YOU!
Mark.......Thanks Lesley and it was a 16 minute age-graded PB, don't do yourself down!!

I started working with Mark while training for the Northumbrian half iron distance Triathlon.
I came from a background with minimal endurance training, a year ago, I struggled to run 1 mile, swim 50 meters, and had never ridden a road bike. I had been training for 6 months, and managed to complete a sprint distance triathlon without a coach. But, after that experience, I realised I needed a more structured approach to tackle the Half Iron Distance, so I reached out to Mark.
Mark is incredibly personable, open, and approachable as well as being very knowledgable and competent as a coach.
He went above and beyond my expectations, serving more as a mentor than just a coach. Not only did he create a detailed training plan that fit within my lifestyle and family commitments, but he also supported me through new experiences like open water swimming and help with cycling (he even took me out cycling with his wife, which was a great day). Mark also helped increase my overall confidence, through being consistently supportive and positive.
Since working with Mark, my overall health and fitness have dramatically improved. The training tips and strategies he shared have become integral to my lifestyle, and has solidified my passion for the sport of triathlon.
By the time the Northumbrian came around, I felt 100% ready and was filled with excitement rather than nerves (which was the opposite in the previous sprint triathlon). I completed the race in July 2024, at a time of 6h 44mins.
In summary, I highly recommend Mark to anyone looking for a triathlon coach, he is deeply passionate about the sport and dedicated to helping others achieve their goals.
Thanks for all your support, Mark. It was a pleasure working with you!
Mark...Thanks for your kind words. You absolutely smashed a really difficult race for your first 70.3!!
