Mariya Volchenkova is a classically trained singer and musicologist. Her journey in music has been shaped by diverse cultural experiences, having spent much of her childhood overseas in Asia due to her parents' work and eventually returning to Bulgaria, her home country, to pursue a career in music. It was there that she entered the National School of Music in Sofia, focusing on classical singing. Her passion for both the practical and theoretical sides of music led her to pursue a major in musicology at the National Academy of Music. During her studies there, she also enrolled in the Kunst Universität Graz’s Vorbereitungslehrgang Gesang programme. Following its completion, she continues to develop her singing skills privately under the guidance of baritone Peter Danailov. Today, she is striving to excel in both fields.
Within the singing field, Mariya has been steadily making a name for herself as a performer. Notably, she was the soprano soloist for the “Discover Graz” city tour in December 2023, supporting a charity project for the Omega social association. In March 2024, she was selected to perform in KUG’s annual Rising Stars concert. She organized a concert in February 2025 with her newly formed trio “Les Chemins d’Amour”, which explored the connections between classical and popular music through the theme of "love" in an unconventional venue. In March, she participated in the VII Sofia Opera Performing Seminars, performing in several concerts in the capital city. Her most recent project is the Abo-Festival “Ein Jahr voller Klassik,” in Ehrenhausen, Austria: a subscription concert series that brings classical music from various European countries to Ehrenhausen over the course of a calendar year.
