Maritime Geoscience Map App

This Atlantic Geoscience Society is pleased to offer this interactive web application that highlights areas of geological significance in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. It includes detailed descriptions and directions to interesting geological features found throughout Atlantic Canada.

Please use caution when parking vehicles and walking along roads. Ask permission to cross private property. Care should be taken when examining rocks along coastlines, particularly along the Bay of Fundy coast, as incoming tides can raise rapidly blocking beach exits and stranding hikers. Exercise caution while walking near steep cliffs and rock cuts as unstable rocks can become dislodged and fall from overhead.

The importance of the paleontological fossil record is officially recognized in New Brunswick’s Heritage Conservation Act, Nova Scotia’s Special Places Protection Act, and Prince Edward Island’s Archaeology Act. Formally asserting provincial ownership of all paleontological objects, these acts stipulate that any fossils discovered must not be destroyed or removed from sites where they are found. Also, please be respectful of the sites to ensure they are maintained for others to enjoy. We encourage you to take pictures, not samples! If you discover an unusual fossil, contact a provincial museum.
