Hello! My name is Marissa, and I am from Denver, CO. I received my Bachelor's of Science in Biology from the University of Denver in 2018. I completed my Master's in Public Health, concentration in community health, from Baylor University in July 2022. After graduating in 2018, I began working at a cardiology clinic, initially thinking clinical medicine was my calling. During my time there, I gained valuable knowledge in working with chronic disease and with diverse populations. However, it became clear to me that health care is much more than patient's visiting their provider. I found my passion in wanting to serve others, to connect them with resources to improve their health, and to advocate for those who do not have a voice. I pursued my MPH to learn how to better serve communities and to improve their access to care. As part of the program, I completed my internship with the National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) with the goal of increasing awareness and education surrounding Von Willebrand's Disease (VWD). Post-grad, I have accepted a position with NHF as a Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Specialist where I will be working on initiatives to improve DEIB within the organization and to reduce barriers to care within the community, specifically for members of the LGBTQ+ community and Hispanic/Latino communities.
