The big stage has been a fascination of mine since I was about three years old. I fell in love with it as a preschool Tap and Ballet dancer at Miss Charity's Shuffles and Chaines. I loved all the girly girl things that went along with dance. The sequins, sparkles, and costumes all looked like diamonds on stage. No stage fright for this girl either. Having danced for nine years, I knew from those first few recitals, that I was going to get on stage somehow.
For me, the most natural progression from the dance stage was the theater stage. I was involved in many school productions from the third grade starting in Suessical Junior, the musical. From there I had roles in several more productions as a dancer, singer, and actress. Plays and musicals like Annie, Lion King Junior, Dorothy in Rubies, and Emeralds to name a few culminating with my favorite and most challenging role as Sylvia in the musical All Shook Up. Sylvia pushed me vocally out of my comfort zone. I pushed myself and nailed my songs and as my favorite actress Audrey Hepburn once said, "Nothing is impossible, the word itself says I'm possible."
As much as I love the stage, I also enjoy the behind-the-scenes aspect of musical theater. What's awesome is performing on a set that I helped design. The technical part of stage production really piques my curiosity as well. The lighting, the microphones, the filming, and the editing are areas I look forward to exploring more.
