MARIS (Maritime Analytics & Research for Intelligent Systems) group, led by Prof. Youngrong Kim, was established in 2025 as part of the Maritime Studies program within the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Nanyang Technological University.

Our main research interests lie in solving problems related to data-driven ship performance analysis, the development of intelligent systems for enhanced ship operation and navigation, the application and impact assessment of green shipping technologies, and optimal strategies for ship antifouling and hull maintenance considering socio-environmental factors.

Through continuous research and innovation, our focus at MARIS is on integrating data-driven artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies with the fundamental principles of ship hydrodynamics and maritime domain knowledge. By applying this combined knowledge and interdisciplinary methods to key challenges, we aim to contribute significantly to the decarbonization and digitalization of the shipping and shipbuilding industry.
