More about Mickey & Samaris:
Mickey Carpenter's journey in partner dancing began in childhood with hand dancing, a distinctive style born in the Washington D.C. area. In the early 90s, he elevated his technique by studying under renowned instructor Lawrence Bradford, which laid the foundation for him to begin teaching hand dance himself by the mid-90s.
His passion for social dance expanded in 2002 when he discovered Chicago-style stepping at a competition in Atlanta. Under the mentorship of Calvin Jarrett and through regular immersion in Chicago's stepping scene, Mickey developed a deep appreciation and mastery of the art form. Over the years, he along with Norman Cherry, Ron Moore, and C.W. "Preach" Harris helped establish and grow the stepping community in Baltimore and DMV. And by 2008, he began sharing his knowledge as a stepping instructor.
A pivotal moment came when Mickey started teaching stepping to Samaris Moton, who would later become his wife and teaching partner. Together, they have traveled across the country stepping and spreading their love for this dance.
As we navigate the changing political landscape, it is now more important than ever to join in community and make room for joy. Come dance to a playlist of songs curated to provide comfort and inspire action. Also enjoy opportunities to learn and share how we can support each other and make lasting change in the next four years and in years to come.
