Growing up, I adored anything with princesses, fairies, or mermaids. I had a nice little selection of princess dresses and shoes too! I was enamored with all the fantastical worlds, beautiful fashions, and strong characters that were meant to empower young girls.
As a child, I did notice one slight thing...
None of the characters looked quite like me as I was a young Latina girl. I noticed a lack of POC (People of Color) characters as I grew up, but as time goes on, I am relieved and hopeful to see the increase of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) characters in mainstream media for children.
Now that I am older, I want to give the next generation of little ones the representation I always wished I had as a child and to ensure their interactions with their favorite characters are everything they ever dreamed. My team and I strive to make only the most genuine, loving, and patient interactions with all children because we know just how important these memories can be!
