Life in Japanese city

Research through drawing

“Painting is just another way of keeping a diary.” —Pablo Picasso

Who am I?

I am Mariia Ermilova, student in the field of Landscape planning in Chiba University, Japan.

Why drawing?

I am living in Matsudo city and doing my research about community design with nature. That's why it is so important to me to learn about city environment and life of local community. I choose sketching as a way to reflect my impressions of Japanese city and communicate the environment I am living in. Drawing is the best way to keep a memory of place and event for me.

Why drawing on location?

Drawing on location allows to interact with the environment you draw, it is telling a true story through the lens of your perception. Plein air or urban sketch, drawing on location is a documentary, it's a data and story of place and people.

Recently I've been sketching together with Urban Sketchers around the world.
