Contemporary Issue Article Discussion Board Post
Each student searched online for an article about a contemporary issue in art history. After reading their article, they answered six questions:
What is this article about? Provide a 100 Word summary.
What did you find interesting about the article?
What is the position of the author? How can you tell?
What other perspectives might there be?
How does this article relate to your learning about art history / What new questions does it raise?
What other information might you need to gain a fuller understanding of the issue?
3 Slide Presentation
Each student conducted research to give a brief (7-10 minute) presentation about any artwork or art form that interested them. Five questions guided their work:
What are the basics that someone should know about your chosen artist/art form (name, title, time period, place, media, and technique)?
Why did you choose this artist/art form? Do you have a special connection or story to share?
What is particularly interesting about this artist or artist/art form?
How does this artist/art form fit in with the current issues and topics we have discussed in class so far?
How did you learn about this artist/art form? How might someone learn more?
Art 21 Discussion Board
Each student chose an artist to learn about by watching a video from the website Art21. They responded to the following questions:
Why did you choose this artist?
What are the main ideas the artist works with?
How does this artist's work relate to learning in class / what new topics does it bring?
What questions does the artist’s work raise?
