Contemporary Issue Article Discussion Board Post

Each student searched online for an article about a contemporary issue in art history. After reading their article, they answered six questions:

• What is this article about? Provide a 100 Word summary.

• What did you find interesting about the article?

• What is the position of the author? How can you tell?

• What other perspectives might there be?

• How does this article relate to your learning about art history / What new questions does it raise?

• What other information might you need to gain a fuller understanding of the issue?

3 Slide Presentation

Each student conducted research to give a brief (7-10 minute) presentation about any artwork or art form that interested them.  Five questions guided their work:

• What are the basics that someone should know about your chosen artist/art form (name, title, time period, place, media, and technique)?

• Why did you choose this artist/art form? Do you have a special connection or story to share?

• What is particularly interesting about this artist or artist/art form?

• How does this artist/art form fit in with the current issues and topics we have discussed in class so far?

• How did you learn about this artist/art form? How might someone learn more?

Art 21 Discussion Board

Each student chose an artist to learn about by watching a video from the website Art21. They responded to the following questions:

• Why did you choose this artist?

• What are the main ideas the artist works with?

• How does this artist's work relate to learning in class / what new topics does it bring?

• What questions does the artist’s work raise?
