Marianne is a French horror streaming television series created and directed by Samuel Bodin, written by Bodin and Quoc Dang Tran and starring Victoire Du Bois, Lucie Boujenah, and Tiphaine Daviot. The plot revolves around the young novelist Emma who realizes that the characters she writes in her horror novels are also in the real world.[1][2] The series was released on 13 September 2019 on Netflix. It was canceled after one season in January 2020.[3]

I finished this last night and I still stand by my initial judgment. Marianne is a modern day classic horror series. You know that feeling that we all have spoke of, "chasing the dragon", the hunt to be scared again, scared like you were the first time. You'll probably never reach that height again, but damn if Marianne doesn't do its best to get you there. I felt very invested in the story and the characters. I love how the show teases the scares and mystery (foreshadowing) and how it always delivers on them. I have read people saying it loses steam half way through, I don't know what show they were watching. Marianne feels like a journey through an intense nightmare. No one is safe in Marianne, not even the viewer. This is not a show carried by jump scares to make uneasy, Marianne is a show that relies on tension, fear, and great writing to scare you. The jump scares it does have all feel earned. Suspense and tension is the main goal here. I was amazed overall and can't recommend enough. 5 stars A+

There were creepy scenes (with good build up and atmosphere) in the first two episodes but overall I felt like we arent going anywhere. Then I get used to the directing and I started to love the series.

I have started contributing more educational content to different outlets. For example, I'm writing a series about running a photography business for the Professional Photo magazine. The first episode is out in the next issue. The current issue has an article I put together about the importance of Test Shoots as a commercial photographer, which got me a picture on the cover of the magazine. You can check out the issue here.

Well, I had just finished Old Magic, my first book, and it was so well received with a dozen countries buying the translation rights that I wanted to write a more in-depth story where my characters were able to time travel to places significant to our history. So I guess you could say Old Magic inspired me to write the Guardians of time Series. I loved reading books that combined history and romance, so I kept that in mind while I started researching. From the outset I knew I wanted to write a series about a girl, her brother, and a boy she liked. The story unfolded from there with chapter-by-chapter breakdowns, which is how I write my first drafts.

The patience? Sometimes I think writing is in my blood. When I set out to write this series, I had three young children. I had a job too, teaching office studies to adults, and computers to High School students, Years 11 and 12. I also ran a house. But I was determined to find the time. The more I wrote, the more important it became to keep going and finish it. I recall working early in the morning to late in the afternoon, and sometimes back again after dinner or after the children had gone to sleep.

One of the hidden gems that may be waiting on your watchlist is the 2019 Netflix original series Marianne. The 8-episode French production opens on a successful horror writer returning to her small-town home to find her demonic creation has come to life -- the titular witch, Marianne. Where the story goes from there unfolds in a masterclass of horror crafting, which uses time-tested strategies all too often forgotten by modern horror flicks. Aside from the strong atmosphere and excellent cinematography, what sets Marianne apart is the meticulous and steady patience with which director Samuel Bodin and writer Quoc Dang Tran craft their scares. Without ever boring their audience, the creatives at the helm of Marianne carefully weave viewers through layers of preparation using three key methods.

Marianne is an excellent case in paranormal horror through strong character development, patience, and psychological warfare against the audience. Although the series performed well internationally, Netflix made the decision to cancel Marianne four months after release. Horror buffs were undoubtedly robbed of a bright (or rather, dark) future for this potential franchise, but the first and only season stands on its own as a show worth pulling from your list.

So long, Marianne. It's a song, bittersweet and written by Leonard Cohen for his former lover Marianne Ihlen. The two met on the Greek Island Hydra in 1960. At the time, Ihlen had been deserted by her husband Axel Jensen and left to raise the child the two shared. When Cohen found his way on the island, Ihlen and the poet began a friendship that blossomed into a fabled love affair. Although the two would eventually split as Cohen became absorbed in the art scene at The Chelsea Hotel in Manhattan, the relationship inspired some of Cohen's most beloved tracks. And now, it has spurred on a drama series from Norwegian broadcaster NRK.

Anyone who has found themselves Googling this relationship into the early hours of the morning should certainly add the television series to their watch list. Hopefully it delves past the pass dynamic of the artist and his muse. Marianne Ihlen was just as much an active member within the relationship as Leonard Cohen, it just so happens that Cohen made popular music and wrote poetry about the love they shared. And despite the relationship's painful end, the two reconnected shortly before Ihlen's death in 2016, where it would be a mere four months until Cohen would follow.

Much of the series will be shot on the craggy and picturesque island of Hydra, with scenes also filmed between Oslo (Ihlen's birthplace), London, New York City and Montreal. As for casting, we've been promised that the announcement will arrive very soon with production for So Long, Marianne set to begin in February 2023.

Their story crosses the world, travelling from Norway to Greece, New York and Montreal, with the majority of the series filmed on the picturesque Greek island of Hydra where they lived during the 1960s. There, they joined legendary Australian novelists Charmian Clift and her husband George Johnston, the matriarch and patriarch of a bohemian group of writers, artists, poets, and outcasts who were exploring a new world of free love, drugs, and artistic freedom, but also experiencing the rivalries and jealousy that accompanied their intense, interwoven lives.

Compared to the likes of The Haunting of Hill House, Marianne is a French series about a horror writer who returned to her hometown and comes to find out the spirit haunting her dreams is now disrupting the real world.

The news comes out of Allocine from France who states the series will not return for a second season. Samuel Bodin who served as the showrunner for the series also confirmed the news in English on his Instagram account saying:

One of the most visceral escapes for me is when I find remnants and traces of humankind in once inhabited places, now abandoned and being taken back deep in nature. This series of photographs specifically references that personal journey while echoing both the melancholy and nostalgic feelings that overwhelm me when in these settings.

Each episode of the new Netflix horror series Marianne is 45 minutes and season 1 has 8 episodes. Obviously, that means you could spend Friday the 13th bingewatching the whole thing. Afterall, this is the horror series that Netflix decided to release on this classic horror day.
