Mariana Viollaz

Welcome to my website! I'm a Senior Researcher at Centro de Estudios Distributivos, Laborales y Sociales (CEDLAS, Argentina) and an IZA Research Fellow.

I work on topics related to labor, gender, and household economics, primarily in Latin America and the Caribbean. My work combines academic with policy research, which often supports international organizations in their collaborations with governments. You can find more details on these in other sections of this website.

Currently, I'm working on several projects: (i) how extending access to full-time elementary schools impacts divorce rates and time use in Mexican households, (ii) how gender norms shift with fluctuations in economic conditions, (iii) participation of women in the Economics profession in Argentina (project selected as part of the IEA - Women in Economics initiative),(iv) the relationship between female leadership and climate change in Brazil (project selected by the GDLab-IDB), and (v) gig employment and its effects on economic resilience in Latin America (background paper for the UNDP's 2025 Regional Human Development Report).

This is my CV and you can find my contact information below.
