Mariana Francisca
de Castro Quintela Varajão (MIMI)
I am a Portuguese artist born in the 2000s.
Currently, I sign my work as Mariana de Castro Varajão (or MIMI).
I have a bachelor's degree in Visual Arts from the University of Minho.
I am pursuing a master's degree in Plastic Arts (fine arts) at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto.
My practice spans writing, illustration, painting, sculpture/construction, and installation.
I am deeply interested in relational practices and the many ways reality can be perceived, as well as the duality of things.
Recently, I have been exploring nature in its various forms and scales, with a particular focus on plants.
The cycle of life and death is a recurring theme throughout my body of work.
I am constantly searching for new ways of creating and new sources of artistic restlessness.
I have participated in the following exhibitions:
"Processes" ("Processos") (3rd year Visual Arts, University of Minho), ZOLA Gallery, Garagem Avenida Building, Guimarães, Portugal, 2024, group exhibition.
"Practices for new ecosystems" – Indisciplinary Journeys – Triangular Project (2nd year Visual Arts, University of Minho), curated by Coletivo Palma, CAAA, CIASG, and EAAD, Guimarães, Portugal, 2024, group exhibition.
"Between Alleys" ("Entre Becos") (1st year Visual Arts, University of Minho), Garagem Avenida Gallery, Guimarães, Portugal, 2023, group exhibition.
