María Del Saz

[ma.'ɾi.a.ð̞el.'saθ]

Universidad de Sevilla (Spain)

My research interests include L1 and L2 Speech Perception, Phonetics of Sound Change, and Speech Technologies, based on the notion that not only is the L1, but specifically the L1 variety/dialect, what shapes perception and change.

At the moment, I am focused on phonetic change in Western Andalusian Spanish, my native variety of the language, as well as on English as a Foreign Language.

Other than an academic, I am also a Linguistic Consultant for Appen https://appen.com/

My function is to provide linguistic assessment and consulting: phonetic transcription of Spanish and other languages, phonetic transcription guidelines for Chilean Spanish, text normalization, speech synthesis assessment, system training through spoken input, data annotation, press demos, curation, etc.  in projects for several international companies (Google, Amazon, Nuance, Microsoft, etc).
