The focus of the research is the application of stochastic models to describe anomalous transport phenomena in the field of hydrological and environmental science. The study involves a type of Lévy walk model that accounts for the heterogeneity of the catchment environment. A stochastic transport process is employed to estimate the transit time distribution of water in catchments, based on the first passage time distribution of the process. The model is validated using stable water isotope concentration data in precipitation and streamflow in Swiss catchments.
