Mária Balgová

Welcome!

My name is Maria and I work as a research economist at the Bank of England. I hold a PhD (DPhil) from the University of Oxford and am a Research Fellow at IZA.

In my academic work, I try to understand various aspects of the labour market. I focus on the spatial dimension of the search and matching: how workers and firms search and find each other across space, and how this drives geographic mobility and regional differences. I also study why firms don't post wages in their vacancies, what types of flexible jobs are good for workers, and why immigrants struggle to assimilate in the labour market.

This website presents my academic research, which does not necessarily reflect the views of the Bank of England.
