Mária Balgová

Welcome!

I am a postdoctoral researcher at IZA in Bonn, Germany. I hold a PhD (DPhil) from the University of Oxford. In the summer of 2024, I will join the Bank of England as a research economist in the Structural Economics Division.

In my research, I try to understand various aspects of the labour market. I focus on the spatial dimension of the search and matching: how workers and firms search and find each other across space, and how this drives geographic mobility and regional differences. In particular, in my job market paper, I study the impact of online recruitment on the geography of local labour markets.

I also study why firms don't post wages in their vacancies, what types of flexible jobs are good for workers, and why immigrants struggle to assimilate in the labour market.
