We started margins with the goal of opening finance up in an accessible manner to students who have been historically underrepresented in the field. We work to challenge the widely held stereotype at Williams that finance is only for a certain demographic. Our community is an inclusive, safe, and diverse space where students can pursue finance in whatever capacity they desire.
To hear about all of our more general opportunities and stay updated on current resources, fill out our interest form. If you’re interested in playing a more active role in the club (i.e. attending workshops, crash courses, info sessions, etc. live) then fill out our application! It’s just a simple questionnaire – we don’t ask for resumes or an interviews!
While “official” members are selected for, almost all of our materials will be posted online on this website and sent out via email to our mailing list. We want members of our community to be invested in one another and in the organization, so as to facilitate real connections and friendships. Ultimately, many of our pre-professional resources and much of our curriculum, although presented to a smaller group initially, will be available to everyone online!
Not at all! Margins aims to build an inclusive environment for students of varying interests in finance and knowledge of the field to learn and connect with one another. We will go over basic financial concepts and accounting skills to provide a foundation for all our members.
Whether you want to work on Wall Street or whether you want to understand the finance section in the New York Times, you'll find a space within Margins. Our goals are not to train the next class of Goldman Sachs recruits but to provide a space where students feel comfortable learning about a relatively mysterious field. We'll provide the means to pursue a more professional track for those interested, but our goals are primarily community-oriented.
From the basics of accounting and finance to higher level theory and current events we provide opportunities for students to dip their toes into the world of finance in whatever way they feel comfortable. Through info sessions and alumni talks, we hope to connect students who are interested in a career on Wall Street with connections to the right sets of people as well. Our Real Talk series will provide a platform for more personal, intimate conversations with professionals to learn more about the experiences and challenges throughout their career, focused especially around those from underrepresented backgrounds.
