Our Mission
At Fight Like a Grown Ass Woman (F.L.A.G.A.W.), our mission is to inspire and equip women with the tools, support, and mindset needed to overcome life's toughest challenges. We aim to foster a community of strong, empowered individuals who fight with courage, dignity, and unwavering resilience. Our focus areas include breast cancer awareness, stroke prevention, caregiving advocacy, and financial literacy, addressing the critical needs of women and caregivers in our society.
Our Story
Marenda Hughes Taylor founded F.L.A.G.A.W. out of her personal journey of resilience and determination. Born and raised in Compton, California, Marenda's life changed dramatically at the age of 39 when she was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer. This aggressive form of cancer, coupled with her positive BRCA1 gene mutation status, led to an intensive treatment journey that included chemotherapy, a bilateral mastectomy, and an oophorectomy-salpingo.
Marenda’s role expanded to that of a caregiver for her husband, who suffered a life-altering hemorrhagic stroke, and her grandmother, who also experienced a stroke. These personal experiences have given Marenda a deep understanding of caregiving's emotional, physical, and financial toll on individuals and families.
