Hi and welcome to my personal website :) My name is Marco and I'm physical oceanographer/climatologist working at the National institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics in Trieste (OGS, Italy; https://www.ogs.it/it).
I have several research interests: biogeochemical dynamics of the Mediterranean Sea and relative sub-basins under different emission scenarios, development of the Regional earth system regional models, specifically tuned for the Mediterranean region, atmospheric drivers of the CO2, detection, tracking and climatology of cyclones at the mid-latitudes and their impacts on marine environment.
Over the last five years I have been working on developing, testing and using regional earth systems models for the Mediterranean region and related sub-basins and to analyze at which extend climate change will affect the dynamics of the marine ecosystems during the 21st century. Moreover, since the beginning of my research career, I have been particularly interested in the cyclone dynamics in the Mediterranean region where these systems are important in influencing the water and energy budget in the area. Moreover, they are important in determining magnitude and location of several extreme events in the region such as heavy rains, storm surge, marine storminess, floods and so on.
I'm part of the ECHO (Ecology and Computational Hydrodynamics Oceanography) of the OGS institute (https://www.ogs.it/it). Along my scientific career I contributed to several research projects and networks such as MedClivar, Med-Cordex, CORDEX, IMILAST, CIRCE, FAIRSEA, HPC-TRES, Terabit, Return, Principles and MEDCYCLONES.
In this website you will find more details of my studies, plus something totally unrelated. In fact, I like planes and flight simulators, playing waterpolo and taking pictures with my Nikon D3000, polaroid snap touch and gopro10. Enjoy :)
