Welcome to my website. My name is Marco Molteni. I am an Assistant Professor (RTT) in Economic History at the University of Turin (ESOMAS Department). I am also Academic Fellow at Bocconi University (SPS Department), Research Fellow at the Geneva Graduate Institute (Center for Finance and Development), and a Research Associate at the University of Oxford (History Faculty), where I obtained my DPhil (PhD) in Economic and Social History. I specialise in both quantitative and qualitative research methods. My main areas of expertise are financial history and Italian economic history. My educational goal is to explain complex phenomena in simple terms to make them accessible to non-experts without losing scientific rigour.
NEWS:
I have been awarded a Starting Grant from the Fondo Italiano per la Scienza (Italian Fund for Science) valued at €1.09 million by the Italian Ministry of Education (2026-2030). The project, titled "Financial Literacy in Historical Perspective," investigates whether historical variation in financial institutions shapes contemporary financial literacy outcomes. Specifically, the research examines the relationship between the heterogeneity of past financial institutional structures and present-day financial literacy levels across different regions in Europe.
