The Marchantia Workshop 2026 will be held on November 27–29, 2026, in Kobe, Japan. This meeting is dedicated to research on Marchantia, with a primary focus on Marchantia polymorpha and related species within the order Marchantiales.
Over the past decade, research using Marchantia as a model system has expanded rapidly in both scope and depth. Thanks to the efforts of many researchers, Marchantia has become an established model in plant science, contributing to advances in molecular genetics, development, physiology, and evolutionary biology. The growing body of work has positioned Marchantia as an important system for addressing fundamental questions in land plant biology.
The workshop aims to bring together researchers working on diverse aspects of Marchantia biology. We welcome contributions that extend beyond M. polymorpha to the broader diversity of Marchantiales, as well as studies that place Marchantia research within the wider context of bryophytes, other non-seed plants, and plant evolution.
At the same time, this workshop intentionally maintains a clear focus on Marchantia. By concentrating on a shared model system, we seek to promote close communication among researchers, encourage collaborative projects, and support constructive scientific exchange. A focused meeting of this kind provides an opportunity for in-depth discussion while strengthening a friendly and supportive research community.
The Marchantia Workshop is designed to provide an open and collegial environment, particularly supportive of early-career researchers and students. Through presentations, poster sessions, and informal discussions, participants will have ample opportunity to share recent findings, discuss emerging questions, and consider future directions for the field.
We look forward to welcoming researchers from the broader plant science community to Kobe in 2026 and to further advancing the Marchantia research community together.
