Making a gold effect or gold color is basically creating a gold gradient, and you can easily do it by finding a gold texture image, and sampling a couple of colors from the image. Then you can save the gradient and fill the object or text with the gold color/gradient.

Keep the 1_____ set to 2__________ and then focus on the gradient sliders to create your own gold gradient in Illustrator. First of all, 3____________ the left slider and set the color to 4________________ and then 5____________ the right one and replace the color with 6________________.
Now, click on the gradient bar to add a third gradient slider, select it and set the 7________ to 8___, and then 9____________ it to set the metallic gold color code to 10_______________.

It appeared to be a bug. The swatch was there in the ID Swatches panel, but it was also white. Opening up the swatch, there appeared to be one color at the final stop of the gradient, that, when removed, seemed to restore things. 5376163bf9
