Student National Medical Association (SNMA) was founded in 1964 as a subdivision of the National Medical Association (NMA) to support underrepresented minority medical students by medical students from Howard University and Meharry Medical College.
Pre-medical students are able to form SNMA MAPS chapters at their undergraduate institutions. There are currently over 100 MAPS chapters nationwide that are supported by local SNMA chapters.
Inspired by the opening of UGA Medical School, during the 2026-2027 school year, the inagural executive board of MAPS at UGA will work to implement and uphold the ideals of SNMA at the University of Georgia as well as the surrounding Athens-Clarke Area in order to apply for national membership at the 2027 American Medical Education Conference.
