Political Satire · 80 min · Korean with English Surtitles
Set in the near future of 2036, Mapping Hitler follows Han Deul-ho, a failed art student who, after repeatedly failing the civil service examination, turns to YouTube in search of recognition. What begins as provocative online content quickly attracts millions of followers, transforming him from an anonymous creator into a powerful political figure.
As media spectacle replaces public debate and algorithms reward outrage over truth, satire gradually becomes reality. Surrounded by loyal supporters, strategic propagandists, and an increasingly polarized society, Deul-ho's rise reveals how democracy itself can become the stage upon which authoritarianism is performed.
Blending projection mapping, live video, and theatrical performance, Mapping Hitler examines how digital platforms shape political power and public opinion. Rather than asking how dictators seize power, Mapping Hitler asks how democracies can unknowingly create their own dictators.
Mapping Hitler is the third production in COMMA,AND's ongoing series, Abstracts of the Future Modern Human. While our previous works explored the relationship between technology and human existence, this production turns its attention to a future that has, in many ways, already arrived. Rather than imagining new technologies, it examines the invisible mechanisms of media power that increasingly shape our lives.
Today we are surrounded by an endless stream of information, images, algorithms, and political spectacle. In this environment, it becomes increasingly difficult to think independently. Mapping Hitler is a black comedy that asks how authoritarianism no longer emerges solely through violence or coercion, but through entertainment, media, and the willing participation of ordinary people.
Projection mapping and live video are not used as visual decoration, but as theatrical devices that reveal how images, symbols, and media narratives occupy the human body and shape collective consciousness. Rather than immersing the audience in illusion, these technologies are designed to create critical distance, encouraging reflection instead of passive consumption.
The question is not whether Hitler could return. The real danger is whether we would recognize him when he no longer looks like Hitler—or whether we would become part of creating him ourselves.
Projection mapping transforms the actors' bodies into living media surfaces, visualizing the invisible process through which ideology and political symbols occupy human consciousness.
Live cameras reveal the simultaneous creation, editing, and consumption of political images, exposing how reality is continuously reconstructed through media.
