I have this old canon printer and i am having a hard time finding an installation compatibil with any laptop that is windows 10. Is there any way to make the printer work if i only have laptops windows 10 and 64 bit.
I'm having some real problems getting several imageCLASS series multifunction units to work in the windows 8.1 x64 environment. most recently, I've been working with a D1120, and I can't get it to do any more than print reliably - no scan functionality at all. I realize there are two issues here, so I'll try to break them apart as best as possible. For reference purposes, i'm running windows 8.1 on a 64-bit system. I was able to download the correct drivers and program from the canon website, and extracted them with no issue.

On the driver problem, I tried using the instructions found in this link, but windows went ahead and installed the 2009 series drivers regardless. It's connecting via USB, and doesn't give me any option to update the drivers once "installed".
The drivers may not be installed correctly because the Windows operating system is automatically installing the driver. First, we will need to disconnect the printer from the computer and uninstall the drivers. Since the drivers are being installed by the Windows system, I recommend uninstalling the drivers from the 'Print Server Properties' window. Please follow the instructions below:
1. Open the [Devices and Printers] window.
2. Left-click, one time, on the Microsoft XPS Document Writer or the Send To One Note devices.
3. Click Print Server Properties in the Menu Bar. (You will see "Add a device", "Add a printer", "See what's printing" and "Print server properties".)
4. Click on the [Drivers] tab.
5. Select the Canon drivers, then click [Remove].
6. Select "Remove Driver and Driver Package".
7. Click "OK". (You may receive a message stating that the Package could not be removed. This is fine. As long as the driver is deleted from the list, you can continue.)
Once the drivers are deleted, restart the computer. After the computer restarts, and leaving the USB cable disconnected, please follow the instructions below to install the drivers that you downloaded from the Canon USA website:
I have a D1120 connected via Ethernet. The printer works fine, and the scanner used to ... that is, I used to be able to scan to the PC using the MF Toolbox or Windows Fax and Scan utility. Now, in both cases, the scanner is not found. The Toolbox yields the message: "Cannot communicate with scanner...." The scan to PC function was once working and I have done nothing to my system other than possibly Windows updates. I have tried to restore my system to an older version to the point when I "guess" that the scanner was working, but the restore point will not restore. I am running Windows 10 Pro - 64-bit; OS build 19043.1466
The printer works fine on the network connection, it is just the scanner function. When you install the driver, it tells you that it needs to turn off the Firewall in order to continue so I did that. I also turned off my McAfee AV software during one install and for the test following the install. Still no joy. It appears that the driver is not compatible with a latest Windows update ... since that is the only possible thing that might have changed. I have also tried setting the shortcut on the Toolbox for compatibility mode but that also doesn't help. My Windows login, incidentally does have local admin permissions. I have also tried launching the Toolbox to run as local admin. I don't understand why the printer will work over the network connection, but the scanner will not since the Web-UI for the printer does show that the scanner is recognized and functioning, just won't work with any scanning software since the SW doesn't see the scanner. I am tempted to upgrade to Windows 11 ... tempted, but not enough to actually do it.
I went back to the Ubuntu official documentation website on the LBP Canon driver package and after reinstalling version 2.3 of the driver from debian packages (using Gdebi), I followed the instructions from the section "Adding a printer" - without success. That despite the fact that I got the "two numbers" mentioned there (I quote: "You should see two numbers at the end. If you do, you are lucky :) etc").
I found the solution today. I installed windows 7 for VMWare than I installed the drivers for printer too. I get the same problem again but I just plugged out and then plugged in again the USB cable and Win 7 configured automatically the printer. Now I can print (hurray), but I was curious the source of problem, so I checked the propertioes of printer. Windows configured printer to USB001 port, but I configured manually to LPT001. So that was the problem. Canon LBP-1120 can't work on COM, LPT or WMVar ports.
