Target audience:
Mathematics undergrads
Undergrads aiming to do theoretical research in CS, ECE, EE domains.
Course description: Probability is the branch of mathematics that models uncertainty and randomness. This course is meant as an introduction to modern probability theory. The students will be introduced to the axioms of probability, the concept of random variables, distribution functions, expectations, elementary inequalities in probability theory, as well as elementary limit theorems.
Course objectives / Learning outcomes:
Elementary understanding of how to derive properties from a system of axioms.
Ability to model uncertainty and deal with various probability distributions.
Overall mathematical maturity in reading and writing proofs.
