Galatasaray University is located in Ortaköy, on Çırağan Street that connects Ortaköy and Beşiktaş Portss.
It is a short walk from the Beşiktaş Ferry and Bus Stops, as well as the Ortaköy Ferry Stop.
There is also a bus stop by the university called the "Galatasaray Universitesi" stop.
It is a scenic area with seaside views, that is close to the historical Çırağan Palace, Beşiktaş Nautical Museum, Yıldız Natural Park and the Ortaköy Mosque.
Our planned conference excursions will include a boat tour along Boshporus, a hike in the Yıldız park and a tour of old İstanbul.
There are a lot of accommodation options in İstanbul, with an average hotel costing 80-100€ a night. Cheaper options (~35€) can be available for participants willing to consider staying at less touristic parts of İstanbul and/or share rooms. Participants are expected to choose their own accommodations.
Galatasaray University offers hot lunch consisting of a main course, sides and desert/fruit at about 5€ a day, there is also a cafeteria to buy drinks and snacks. Lunch will be provided free of charge to registered participants.
The day after the last day of school, August 30th, is a national holiday in Turkey. Celebrations are held throughout İstanbul.
Celebrations By İstanbul Kültür: There are celebrations at different locations with activities aimed at kids plus some music and dance shows, including an open concert in Müze Gazhane on Sunday. See their webpage for details.
Free museum visits (Turkish Citizens only, using Radarİstanbul app): The museums Yerebatan Sarnıcı, Şerefiye Sarnıcı, Panorama 1453 Tarih Müzesi, Dijital Deneyim Merkezi and Miniatürk will be free to visit between 10.00- 14.00
Other: It looks like the official celebration will take place on Vatan Street, but details are not available online other than the fact that the street will be closed to car traffic during the day.
