Seth is a 9-year old mage apprentice who wishes to become a tomb cat, following the steps of his aunt Morgana. However, being the guardian of a sacred temple is a little bit different from what you imagine when you're just a kid who can't even fry an egg with a simple fire spell...
Tomb Cats is a lighthearted fantasy-comedy about a young tomb cat apprentice learning the first steps to becoming one of the last protectors of the ancient tombs.
Since 2019, Tomb Cats has gone from concepts to comics and even short animations. Following the warm reception, I finally decided to start the development of an indie pilot based on this passion project of mine a few years back. You can follow Tomb Cats' production through its official social media pages bellow:
The tomb cat wannabe
Our young mage apprentice himself. As a 9-year old kid, he’s very curious about pretty much anything and is always asking questions, no matter how silly they may be (which Morgana may not be so happy about). He tries to hide it, but ever since he can remember he’s been a scaredy cat who’s afraid of his own shadow (that dang toaster will always startle the poor thing whenever the bread pops out).
Seth loves cute things, sweets/candy, hero comics and spending time with his aunt. He may not be ready to become a tomb cat yet but, rather sooner than later, this furless cat will have to prove he got what it takes to be a guardian.
The mysterious guardian of an ancient pyramid located at a rather forgotten bay. The locals don't know much about her, but her reputation there doesn't seem to be exactly great.
Morgana loves pizza, junk food and will eat possibly anything edible. According to Seth, she single handedly took care of multiple kaiju-sized beasts with a single spell in the past. She apparently can also summon a mini-fountain of icy cold guaraná whenever she pleases (Seth's words, not mine).
(Despite her claims, double-burger wielding is not an actual magic fighting style)
Lil creature
Technically cobras, but Morgana calls them "snakes". Small spirit beings that will follow her whenever she goes. Oddly enough, Seth never saw one of them yet (they can be shy sometimes).
Phantom Snakes enjoy ghost stuff and doing ghost things like phasing through walls and eating raw noodles with guacamole.
Phantom Cobra Snake Turnaround (2025)
Before Tomb Cats became a pilot project, two short animations were produced with the help of my friends. The first one, Seth Needs Snacks! (2021) was based off a Seth monologue written by the talented voice actor Michael Gonzalez. It was my first time in charge of a project, so I sure learned a lot with it. Tomb Cats: Hard Working Student (2021) came out just a few months later, this time based on the second short comic I made in 2019. It was a way smaller project in general, but several improvements were made compared to the first one, such as the visuals and audio mixing quality (found out the hard way how tricky these things can be). Huge shout-out to all my friends who made these animations possible!
Promotional works and shared material from the project's production, from old to new.
Former Twitter header from the project's account. Published in 2022.
A fun concept of making her eyes glow green as she gets progressively angry. Will most likely keep it in the final thing (2022)
As it stands right now, I'm the sole developer of this project, with occasional help from my friends. I barely make enough to order a pizza a month through Patreon and need constant help to pay for my meds. Needless to say, Tomb Cats is right now a mere wild dream from a humble artist.
