The scholarship was established in 2022 in memory of Frank “Chico” and Elaine Mancini by their sons, Frank, Dominic, Joseph and daughter in laws Lori, Pam and Amy along with six grandchildren, Maria, Nicholas, Sophia, Anthony, Vincent, and Anita. Chico was a local educator and football coach for 36 years and finished his professional and football coaching career at Austintown Fitch High School. Elaine served the community of Boardman, Ohio as a PTA President, school board member for 8 years and the first woman Boardman Township Trustee for 16 years. Chico earned several graduate degrees from Youngstown State University in education and Elaine earned her associates degree from Youngstown College in accounting and enjoyed working at Carney-McNicholas United Van Lines for over 50 years.
The legacy of attending YSU was passed on to their children where all three earned bachelors and graduate degrees in business and education respectively. Five of their six grandchildren attended YSU and earned bachelors and master’s degrees in accounting, business management, exercise science, and mechanical engineering. On any given Saturday during a home YSU football game, Chico and Elaine could be found in the YSU tailgate lot with their family and friends getting ready to cheer on the Penguins. Chico and Elaine made a difference in both the Austintown and Boardman communities and dedicated their lives to students, athletes, and residents. This scholarship will be awarded each year to a female student from Boardman majoring in political science or accounting and a male student from Austintown majoring in education. Our goal is to raise $25,000 for the scholarship to be in perpetuity.
