#367 用語辞典で引く談話分析
ピーター・トラッドギル（Peter Trudgill）の『A Glossary of Sociolinguistics』をいまさらながら手に入れて、パラパラと眺めています。ちょうど談話分析（Discourse Analysis）の定義について確認していたところだったので、本書でどのように整理されているか、引用してご紹介したいと思います。
"A branch of linguistics which deals with linguistic units at levels above the sentence, that is texts and conversations. Those branches of discourse analysis which come under the heading of sociolinguistics presuppose that language is being used in social interaction and thus deal with conversation. Other non-sociolinguistic branches of discourse analysis are often known as text linguistics. Discourse analysis is opposed by some writers to conversation analysis."
簡単にまとめると、談話分析とは「文を超えたレベルの言語単位」、つまりテクスト（文章）や会話を取り扱う言語学の一領域とされています。
社会言語学の枠組みで行われる談話分析では、言語が「社会的相互作用の中で使われるもの」という前提があるため、会話を取り扱います。一方で、社会言語学の範疇に含まれない談話分析は「テクスト言語学」として知られており、研究者によっては「会話分析」と対比させる形で談話分析を捉えるケースもあるようです。
