Metropolitan AME Church Scholarship Endowment Payne-Tanner Memorial 

2026 Scholarship Application Site 


Instructions:  Each applicant must submit a completed application to the Scholarship Committee. Applications and all supporting material will be accepted beginning February 15 but must be received by April 15. Incomplete materials will not be considered. Read the application carefully and answer all questions. In addition, submit the following information:

• Letter of acceptance, or if currently enrolled, a current certificate of enrollment from an accredited post-secondary institution.

• Letter of recommendation from a counselor or major academic advisor.

• Letter of recommendation from one subject instructor.

• Letter of sponsorship from a current member of Metropolitan A.M.E. Church (if applicant is not a member of Metropolitan).

• Transcript or record of grades verifying a cumulative grade point average of C (if in high school) or C+ (if in college).

• A personal statement written by each applicant addressing academic merit, reasons for pursuing vocational and occupational goals, financial need, and why applicant is deserving of an award by the Metropolitan A.M.E. Church Scholarship Endowment (not to exceed 150 words).

• Any other pertinent information, i.e., honors, awards, special programs.


InterviewEach qualifying applicant will be required to appear before the Scholarship Committee for a personal interview. Failure to appear for the scheduled interview will result in disqualification of the application.

Priority and/or consideration for scholarship awards may be given to first-time applicants and graduates who meet the stated criteria.

Any scholarship applications and documents that are not mailed to the Scholarship Committee’s address above and not received by the deadline will not be considered. The Scholarship Committee will accept letters of recommendation emailed by counselors, academic advisors, or instructors to mamecscholarship@gmail.com between February 15 and April 15.   The emailed recommendation must be sent from the institution's assigned email address and not from personal email addresses. No other documentation will be accepted by email.
