Teaching Philosophy

As a musician, music and creativity come first to me. As a teacher, my student's success and joy comes first to me. My mission is to make use of my years of experience teaching and playing music to create a learning environment that brings these elements together harmoniously. I believe learning music should be a fun and inspiring experience, and I aim to always have my classroom full of laughter and applause!

Currently continuing my music education at Washtenaw Community College, I have had the honor and privilege of studying under a few extremely talented local musicians. Some of my more noted teachers have been Tad Weed, Janette Faber, and Jack Wagner. All of my instructors have brought their own personal philosophies and quirks to their lessons, and I have based my own teaching style around my favorite experiences from each.

Music has always centered my life. It is what got me through my darkest hours and amplifies the best days. There are sectors around the music community that believe in strictness and perfection. I believe in being in harmony with where you are, loving what you do, and practicing during times of doubt. I want to foster my students' relationship with music to be one of love and joy, not ones of stress and perfectionism. Music is an expression of oneself. It deserves to be a fulfilling part of each students' life.
